Las Latinas Review: "The Riches"
Las Latinas never really understood the hype surrounding Eddie Izzard. Is he really that funny? Or do people just get a kick out of the dress, makeup and earrings he wears for no apparent reason? Without the wig, he's totally not fooling anyone. At least Dame Edna made for a passable, though insane, tranny. In any event, Eddie has moved on from the random female attire into the bizarro world of FX original programming with "The Riches" - and we approve!
Las Latinas will assume our dear readers are familiar with the premise of the show (family of thieving gypsies takes over the house and lives of a wealthy dead couple) and get right to the heart of the matter: how are the accents? Minnie Driver's Deliverance-style (cliche reference, but what the hell) accent is excellent. On the Dr. Gregory House Perfect American Accent Scale from 1-10 (with House obv. at a 10 and Brad Pitt in "Troy" at a 1 even though we *love* Brad), she gets a 9. That's minus one point b/c she's the only one in the family with that accent so it's random. Eddie, on the other hand....okay, he's obviously British. On the House scale.....Dr. House would not approve and even refuses to rate! Well, still better than Brad.
Beyond the accents, best character so far: the homemaker next door with the pain pills. Las Latinas relate!
The nutshell, because we can't be bothered to recap the entire show: For underachievers, "The Riches" is a show created of a pipe dream. Oh, for a random windfall cased by a fatal, unwitnessed car accident. *Sighs.* We'll continue to watch.
O Eddie, u r so strait now!
